Of Riots and Rabbits
SHMCD02 2008
Our second CD was released in 208. As well as Liz and Terry, the CD features Kathryn Tickell, who plays on four tracks. She plays Northumbrian pipes on "Hobie Noble" and "Baron of Brackley", fiddle on "The Hexham Riot" and both fiddle and pipes on "Midsummer Blue". Julie-Ann Morrison, formerly Julie-Ann Kay of "Lucky Bags" joins us on nine tracks playing harp and adding chorus harmonies.

The CD has the same mix of traditional and self-penned songs as "Premier" - there are seven songs by Terry, one by Terry and Liz, and six traditional songs. We know the author for only one of these - George Chatt wrote "Bonny Tyneside" in the second half of the 19th Century.

The title of the CD refers to two of the tracks. The Riot is the Hexham Riot of 1761, when 51 people were killed in Hexham Market Square. Terry wrote the song assisted by Liz, who, knowing less about the subject, brought a fresh eye to the story. The Rabbit was a pet belonging to the son of two of Terry's friends. He asked Terry to write a song about his rabbit. "The Saga of Timothy Rabbit" is proving to be one of the most popular songs of the collection.
