Project Gallery

During the year as Artists in Residence at Papdale Primary School, we'll be working on a variety of art projects with the children - alongside working on our own artwork.

This section of the website will document the progress of the Residency in the form of project galleries.

Project Galleries:

> Consequence Project
The idea for the group of paintings, 'Consequence' came from playing the game of Consequences with our children. The appeal of this game is in its unpredictable outcome. More...

> Pupil's Wave
This wave is to be created out of luggage labels and price tags, which we are handing out to every child in the school. Children are invited to made their contribution to the Wave by drawing or writing on their tags and then giving them back to us. More...

> Miscellaneous Projects
Section covering other projects taking place throughout the year - and miscellaneous photographs of the Residency. More...

Other possible projects for 2007...

Part of the brief of this Residency is to show children and the wider community what it means to be a working artist. This means that 50% of our time should be spent making our own work. Because we are collaborative artists we have enjoyed and been inspired by collaborating with friends and family in the past. This means that there is very little difference in the way we make our own work and the way we work with children or make art works for the school (also part of our brief!)

Projects that we were working on last year included 'Free Radicals' and 'Wedded' - and these two projects are ongoing.

For our first term we installed 'Wedded' and our 'Free Radical' fish in the Papdale art studio to show children, teachers and parents some of our work to date. Many of the visitors to our studio last term seemed to particularly enjoy the 'Free Radical' fish and a couple of children have even showed us their own fish, which were inspired by ours.

This has flattered and prompted us to move on with this concept of fish made of bruck and holiday material and, once the eight 'Consequence' paintings and the 'Pupil's Wave' are complete, we plan to make a room full of fish that would form an installation and be like walking through a room-sized fish tank.

For more information about 'Free Radicals' see our main website.

We would like to include children in this project if there is time left once the other projects are finished.

Also, the P2s made up some wonderful 'Mini Beasts' when they visited our studio last term and we would like to turn some of these into small paintings and perhaps 3-dimensional 'Litter Bugs' - if there is time within our year here. We have already touched on this theme at the Pier Arts Centre workshops in this summer's Stromness Shopping Week.

We are also considering making some of the 'Consequence' drawings into 3-dimensional guests for 'Wedded' - so that in future we might extend 'Wedded' to be a much larger installation.
