[ orquil gallery residency ]
Orquil Gallery is a converted church situated in Rendall, Orkney.
When invited to reside at Orquil Gallery for a month, in June 2004, it was a great pleasure. The converted church, owned by Orkney artist Alan Watson, is an ideal location for creativity.
While there, it allowed me to work on a larger scale again due to the space available - and it let me work with the paint in such a way that I had not worked before. I felt comfortable working in such a great space and learnt a lot from my time there. I still think back to my 7 mile cycle out to Orquil and remember every journey made; the weather change, the big hill I had to tackle on my bike and the sight of Rousay across the water. I am still inspired by the time I spent at Orquil and it has given me lots of inspiration to work from.
Below are some photographs of works in progress during the residency at Orquil Gallery.
