about stuff
stuff is a four-tracked piece of worked up niceness. There are four
tracks and it is available on CD and TAPE. As discussed in the band
page chat as a cutenasty product this veers heavily to the Cute
O meter side. Called stuff 'cos that's what it is, the first stuff
we were ready to put out. It is not definitive of Silly Auto's work
- alot of more recent stuff has deeper texture and is more darkly
twisty. But then hey, it's early days yet.
Bare Back in a Rusty Pram: A trip into bouncy childhood
remeniscences with David's imagination
I Wanna Be: Punk retro commentary on mod life for those
of us who were into Floyd when it first broke (hey, at least we
remember punk first time round)
I Know Everything: Paul's get even song and trauma relief
number about a nasty woman he met in a bar. Basically a song about
anyone who has ever got up your nose
Big Big Bear: A song about love as a big cuddly thing with
teeth that will rip your arm off if you tweek its nose once too
often. That's about the size of it

button
In 1996 Paul Dews started work on his first solo project under the
alias of Silly Automatic. Working entirely from home on his own
recording equipment, Paul explored new ways of writing and pushed
the small amount of technology available to him at that time to
its limits. He experimented with many different styles and moods
and the resulting material gradually evolved into an album of ten
songs entitled 'belly button'.
The line up for the album was as follows:
Paul Dews - electric and acoustic guitars, vocals, bass, drum
and percussion programs, additional keyboards
Ken Senior - bass and keyboards on 'Vinegar Mansions'
Sohail Khan - Tabla on 'Global Big Love Explosion'
Dave Young - Didgeridoo on 'Global Big Love Explosion
Side One
Rubber People
Parallel Universe
It's love
Walking on Water
Pulled Away
Side Two
Vinegar Mansions
Rain on a Hot Stone
This Day
Global Big Love Explosion
Growing Pains
Feedback magazine review - April 1997
'A very pleasant and distinctive voice, and songs which deftly
defy categorisation effortlessly amalgamating many styles and approaches
of recent decades, with strong melodies and well-crafted lyrics.'
