Riders of Sea Horses
A celebration of Rognvald's pilgrimage to the Holy Land, a story
of adventure, romance and intrigue. Children from nine Orkney schools present
a spectacular commemoration through drama, dance, music and art.

Goodwill visit from Stavanger Maritime Museum
Two sailing ships from the Stavanger Maritime Museum will visit Kirkwall
at the height of Midsummer. The Anna af Sand, built in 1848, and the
Wyvern, built in 1897 will be docked in Kirkwall for four days.

The Martyrdom of St Magnus
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' powerful chamber opera, inspired by George
Mackay Brown's novel Magnus, launched the first St Magnus Festival
in 1977. This compelling theatrical work returns to the Saint's own
cathedral in a new production by The Hebrides Ensemble.

Faring: Rognvald's return
A spectacular outdoor performance celebrating both St Rognvald and St Magnus
Cathedral. Kirkwall City Pipe Band and Shetland's Guizer Jarl ('Kol
Kalison') and his Jarl's Squad add to the spectacle. The show
culminates in a thrilling aerial performance focusing on the Cathedral
itself. Produced in partnership with London's Circus Space.

This exhibition tells the story of this remarkable man and the time in which
he lived. Poet, warrior, pilgrim and diplomat, he is best remembered as Saint
Rognvald, the builder of St Magnus Cathedral.
