Personal profile
Following graduation in 1988, I spent 8 years in field archaeology
working with organisations such as York Archaeological Trust
and the Humberside Archaeology Unit. I have worked as a site
assistant on sites dating to the Iron Age, Anglo-Saxon, Medieval
and post-medieval periods. I moved on to supervising the processing
and recording of finds: setting-up recording procedures; post-excavation
work and writing reports for developers. I have produced articles
and have had a monograph published for a major Anglo-Saxon
cemetery site.
In 1996 I joined Hull Museums Service as Assistant Keeper of Archaeology and became involved with re-organising and documenting the stores. I liaised with contractors regarding the transfer of archives and was responsible for setting-up Finds Identification Days for the general public in advance of the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Research and cataloguing of the collection was on-going, with particular emphasis on Anglo-Saxon and Medieval artefacts. When I was appointed Keeper of Archaeology my work focused on our Heritage Lottery Fund application to completely redesign the museum and install new displays.
In 2002 I moved to Hartlepool Museums Service and although it gave me a broader curatorial role it no longer brought me into contact with archaeology. I left to help set-up a continental and wholefood business with my husband, with a view to working as a freelance finds specialist once this was well established.
