Raving about Modern Times #4: The (London) Times
The Times, still probably the most respected of Brit newspapers, has two stabs at Modern Times. Neither is very positive.
In Friday’s T2, Pete Paphides calls it “a triumph of modest objectives: no more, no less.”
In The Knowledge, Saturday’s TV/listings supplement, Stephen Dalton is even more critical: “no masterpiece… knee deep in… relentlessly average 12-bar blues rockers… like a Dire Straits covers band… lazy and unfocused…”
Oh dear!
