Dylan Live In Canada – encore

Brady Leyser informs me that his recent book, Bob Dylan Live In Canada, is now available on chapters.ca for $46. Canadian.

Here’s the review I ran when it was published:



Dylan in Canada
Brady J Leyser has just sent me a copy of his new book, Bob Dylan Live In Canada.

I love it. I love its incredible level of detail. But, most of all, I love the passion which has driven the enterprise.

You don’t have to be a typically patriotic Canadian (“Pardon me – I’m NOT American!”) to enjoy this book, but you do have to be a Dylan nut.

Leyser’s immense compilation, put together with the help of fabled Dylan statistician Olof Bjorner, reveals that Dylan has:

· Played in 26 Canadian cities.
· Performed 241 different songs.
· Played 77 songs only once in Canada.
· Performed 11 songs that made their worldwide live debut in Canada.
· Played 8 unreleased songs.
· Toured and performed with 65 different band members, and
· Performed at 62 different Canadian venues.

He rounds out his concert history with: a summary for each year Dylan has toured Canada; set lists; 229 contemporary concert reviews, from 53 publications; 18 indexes of statistical analysis; and colour reproductions of no fewer than 82 ticket stubs (what happened to the missing 37 gigs, Brady, ya wimp?).

Leyser may well have unwittingly supplied the template for a whole new bookshelf of ‘Dylan Live in XYZ’ volumes: subsequent writers won’t go far wrong if they follow his example.

Bob Dylan Live in Canada is a rich addition to the library. Collectors will want a copy.

Cavils? Only one – the publisher has priced it above my normal Dylan book threshold. If I’m a typical Bob product consumer, this could depress sales.
