Favourite album - The Times They Are A-Changin'
Thanks to Tom Townsend:
“After lots of careful thought on my favourite Dylan album, I had to choose The Times They Are A-Changin'. The title song was the first piece of Dylan music I (knowingly) heard, and although I don't listen to the album too often today, when I do it is a real treat.
“My favourite song on the album is When the Ship Comes In - the song sums up the whole album exceptionally well, and there have been many great alternate takes.
“The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll is a song charting the killing of Carroll by the wealthy William Zantzinger (for some reason Dylan mispronounces his name). Dylan dresses the story up to be a brutal murder, though Zantzinger was convicted of the lesser crime of manslaughter - Carroll's death was linked to a problem with her health.
”The songs are all individually great, but for me the best thing about the album is the way in which the songs all work together - the dark mood of the whole album is carried right to the end.
“Everything about this album is great, the artwork, all the songs from start to end. For me this is as good as it gets, yet few people give it the recognition it deserves.”
