More on Michael Gray’s new encyclopedia
Thanks to Bernard McGuinn:
“I bought the book immediately on the back of your positive review, and, unsurprisingly, I'm not disappointed.
“This is the perfect companion for any Dylan fan who is a strong enthusiast, but not yet an obsessive! I'm finding it a real treasure trove to dip into and digest in light bites. It actually does what it says on the label.
“Personal favourite entry, from the ones read so far, is the one on Howard Alk. It gave me a completely new perspective on some of that ‘60s film work.
“Like all encyclopedias, it's fun to try and catch it out, by thinking of any Dylan-related subject, then looking to see if Mr. Gray has missed it out. The only real successes I've had with this trivial game are in the ‘Dylan Superfan’ category. And I, like you, doubt the real value and credibility of some of these entries anyway. It would be interesting to know on what basis he decided to put someone in or leave someone out.”
