Top Dylan writers – mostly English?
When a friend asked me to recommend the key Dylan books, I realised that my favourite Dylan writers: Michael Gray… Christopher Ricks… Clinton Heylin… Howard Sounes… are mostly English.
But why should Anglos be so over-represented on the shelves of books about a quintessentially American musician? Does England have a disproportionate number of Bobfans? Is my judgment clouded by silly patriotism? Or do I rate these writers because their books are readily available in retail outlets I frequent? Maybe my author preferences aren't shared by the wider fan base?
The Dylan Daily would welcome your views – especially if you’re American.
