Veteran DJ’s criticism of Dylan on XM Radio – encore
Tom Townsend takes exception to DJ Michael Tearson’s criticism of Dylan’s first XM radio show:
“With reference to Michael Tearson's article on Dylan on XM, it appeared he was not too pleased with it. Living in the UK, it is difficult (for me) to get the XM network, but small amounts of the show were played on the BBC, and the people I have spoken to regarding his style of presenting and his choice of music enjoyed the small snippets that were broadcast.
“Dylan expert and rock music critic Greil Marcus is also of the belief that the show was presented ‘like he's been doing it for years’.
“Michael suggests that Dylan uses a team to help with production etc for his show: it should be pointed out that Dylan records all his material when he is either at home or on tour, when the thoughts strike him, thanks to the equipment provided by XM.
“Along with the info on his recording practice that I read in The Guardian, I see that Sirius (a major rival of XM) has signed Eminem to present a show. I wonder whether Michael will be quite so critical of him?”
