Dylan’s Lyrics 1962-2001 – an offer you can’t refuse
After having bought the first Dylan lyrics book, Writings and Drawings, on publication in 1974, and then unaccountably missed the 1980s update, I was keen to rectify the error by buying Lyrics 1962-2001 when it was published in 2004.
But the £35 sticker was a real disincentive: badly overpriced, I thought. It was obvious that it would be discounted eventually. I watched the price drop, to £28 in HMV, and even to £15 in Music Zone in early 2005. Hmm… still scope for further reductions. So I waited.
Mr Tightwad’s patience was finally rewarded last night. Killing time in London’s Oxford St Virgin Megastore, I stumbled across a high pile of Lyrics 1962-2001 at the giveaway price of £5.99 each. An offer I couldn't refuse. Presumably a paperback edition is due and Virgin are clearing the decks.
