The Italian Bob
On a recent trip to Turin (una bella citta!), I managed to sneak away, as obsessives are prone to do, for a quick check of the main bookshops, in search of local Dylan product.
The number of Italian language Dylan titles was a surprise – I clocked well over a dozen, notably in La Feltrinelli, an outlet with a strong claim to be the most attractive bookshop in Europe.
In addition to several translations from English – including Chronicles, Scaduto, and the two Greil Marcus studies – I was particularly impressed by three Italian language books:
* Paolo Vites’s Bob Dylan 1962-2002 - 40 Anni di Canzoni (Editori Riunita), one of the most beautifully designed Dylan artefacts of all; I regretted not having bought a copy, even though I’d have struggled with the text
* The Bob Dylan title in the wonderful Legends series of pocket book/impulse buys (also published by Editori Riunita); ditto
* And the exciting new study by sometime Dylan Daily correspondent Nicola Menicacci, which tracks the esoteric content in Dylan’s writing between Blood On The Tracks and Oh Mercy; I’m eagerly anticipating a possible English translation.
If any reader would like to supply a complete list of Italian language Bob books, The Dylan Daily would be very pleased to publish it.

(Editori Riunita doesn’t seem to have a searchable website.)
