New Dylan myths?
Thanks to Martin Cowan for his note on Dylan myths, old and new:
“The Word magazine’s recent crowning of Bob Dylan as the Man of the Year inspired me to buy the magazine for the first time. It was enjoyable reading the cover feature debunking some of the oft-repeated Dylan myths. But a couple of myths-in-the-making somehow sneaked in.
“The mag claims that Dylan made ‘Time Out Of Mind’ after his hospitalisation from histoplasmosis, and, elsewhere, that media interest in Dylan was high when he had his health problem because his first major album in years had just been released.
“In fact, both claims are wrong. Dylan was hospitalised on May 25th 1997, after the recording of ‘Time Out Of Mind’, and the album was actually released on September 30th 1997. “And, while The Word writer is undoubtedly justified in claiming that he was one of the ‘lucky few’ who actually saw the Great Music Experience in 1994, Dylan's superb performance of three songs was shown on British television in May 1994, and one track – ‘A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall’ - was officially released on one of the ‘Dignity’ CD singles, in 1995.”
