Under The Red Sky, top Dylanologists, and that 1963 freebie

Thanks to Gerry Bamford for touching several bases:

* For a positive approach to the songs on 'Under The Red Sky', consult Paul Williams’s latest tome in his Performing Artist series, 1986-1990 and Beyond - pp 260 or so and onward.

* Paul Williams is my number 1 Dylanologist - because he is so positive about Bob's live performances as works of art. No. 2 is Anthony Scaduto, because he was the first, and then Robert Shelton because he wrote the review in the New York Times (maybe they are just biographers). Then John Bauldie, because he kept us informed for years when others had lost interest. More to follow.

* The bootleg CD 'In Concert' seems to be the way Columbia planned it in 1963 before deciding not to go ahead; it contains tracks from both the Carnegie Hall Oct 26 and from Town Hall April 12 concerts, but only 'Weary Tune' is on the Virgin freebie. It's all very strange that they should decide to use an incomplete as a giveaway. What we needed was the two 1963 concerts on one CD, leaving out 'Last Thoughts on Woody Guthrie' which is already on the first Bootleg Series set (as are John Birch and Davey Moore, in fact).
