XM radio underestimate Dylan, their new DJ
If my newspaper is to be believed, Bob Dylan is “one of the most important singer-songwriters of the 20thC”. The quote is attributed to a Lee Abrams, Chief Creative Officer of XM Satellite, the subscription-based radio station for whom Dylan is to start freelancing as a DJ in March 2006.
If the quote is accurate, XM radio seriously underestimate their new freelance.
“One of the most important…”? Who, conceivably, is equally or more important than Dylan? Donovan? Jackson Browne? Bob Seger? Gimme a break.
“…singer-songwriters”? Writers in the English language - in any medium – surely?
“…of the 20thC?” How many other 20thC writers can seriously challenge Dylan? James Joyce and TS Eliot, perhaps. Er, that’s it. Better push back that timeframe: since Shakespeare?
XM rate Dylan as “one of the most important singer-songwriters of the 20thC”. The Dylan Daily rates him as the most important writer in the English language - in any medium - since Shakespeare.
We can’t both be right.
