Rarity on new free promo CD, Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963
Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963, the new six-track promo CD, is a must-have for any half decent Dylan collection. Using material recorded on 26 October 1963, the 32-minute mini-album has six tracks:
* The Times They Are A-Changin’ * Ballad Of Hollis Brown * Boots Of Spanish Leather * Lay Down Your Weary Tune * North Country Blues * With God On Our Side.
It sees a young Dylan in great voice performing the best of the third album, The Times They Are A-Changin’. The highlight is Lay Down Your Weary Tune, one of the under-rated gems in the Dylan canon, and the only song on the promo CD to have been excluded from The Times LP. A studio version is available on Biograph.
Though serious collectors will have had the promo CD for some weeks, I only tracked down my copy on Saturday, at Virgin in Bluewater, Kent. The retailer is giving it away free to buyers of any two Dylan albums: if you already have all the Bob CDs, you can buy two discounted CDs to give to friends, for under £10. That’s a fair price for this version of Lay Down Your Weary Tune alone.
If you acquired your copy of Bob Dylan Live At Carnegie Hall 1963 from another source, please let others know via The Dylan Daily, by emailing details for publication on the site to info@musicforgrownups.co.uk .
