A stunning Mississippi the highlight of the London, Tuesday show

Many thanks to Phil Davis for his report of last night’s London show:

“Bob played a good gig tonight, albeit with fewer surprises than in recent shows.

“Rumble started the set off. Once again, it was only a fragment, but it got the audience ready. Maggie`s Farm, the real opener, was played with vigour - a real rocker. The new arrangement of Love Minus Zero followed - I had been hoping to see it live this week, so it was a big plus for me.

“A nice, jazzy version of Lonesome Day Blues was followed by Positively 4th Street, a song I had been waiting 25 years to hear live. And what a wonderfully clear version it was, with great phrasing – well worth the wait.

“Most Likely You Go Your Way, and Cold Irons Bound both rattled along, with powerful support. Girl From The North Country had a little of the infamous “upsinging”, but not enough to ruin this classic. I Don`t Believe You got the crowd going, but the banjo-backed John Brown, however well sung and played, could never be a great favourite.

“Stuck Inside Of Mobile, only the third duplicate from the earlier Brixton shows, followed, and then - the most welcome surprise of the night - the very first performance outside the USA of Mississippi. An absolute stunner, it got the reception it deserved.

“Highway 61 seemed to have a longer finish than Sunday and Monday, with some lovely solos, especially by drummer George. Waitin` For You, being played for a second night, was welcome: let`s hope it stays a while. Summer Days signalled the end of the main set; the encores were the same as Monday’s - Like A Rolling Stone and Watchtower.

“A few considered that Tuesday’s wasn't a great set, but I enjoyed it. I would have liked to have seen a few centre stage harp solos, though.

“Three London shows down, two to go...”
