Dylan’s Autumn 2005 tour of Europe
Tonight in Nottingham, England, Bob Dylan starts the second leg of his Autumn (aka Fall) tour of Europe. The first leg of the tour – continental Europe - started in Stockholm on 17 October and finished on Sunday in Zurich. For an entire month, Dylan’s caravan has been criss-crossing Europe, from Oslo to Milan, and Rotterdam to Prague.
According to my analysis of the set lists on Bill Pagel’s excellent Bob Links web site (link in right col of The Dylan Daily Update page), the 17 Euro shows saw performances of no fewer than 77 different songs. The most played tunes were:
1= All Along The Watchtower (20)
1= Highway 61 Revisited (20)
3 Summer Days (15)
4 Like A Rolling Stone (12)
5 Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum (11)
The Dylan Daily’s correspondents who’ve seen the Euro shows report mixed performances - not as good as Bob in 2003, probably a bit better than 2004. A typical report read:
“Bob was good in Brussels - not great, but good. His band aren't in the groove as previously - yet. The fiddle playing adds to the sound. Bob was pretty good on remembering the words and he did the longest version of Desolation Row I've heard in a long time.”
Tonight’s gig in Nottingham is the first of nine English shows, centring on five in London next week. It would be too much to expect that Dylan will reach the heights of the four spectacular London shows of 2003, but here’s hoping…
