Mr George Marwick - Patron

Geord Marwick"As Orkney’s Lord Lieutenant I am delighted to give my support to the Orkney Boat Museum project and the restoration of the Hall of Clestrain. As a patron of the Friends of the Orkney Boat Museum I would ask you to join as a member of the Friends and so show your support for this exciting project. Orkney has a long and interesting history of traditional boat design and boat building. The museum will trace this story from the earliest Neolithic log boat to the skiffs and yawls used in our own time. It will tell of the Viking longships that brought the Norsemen to our shores and how the Orkneymen with the Hudson Bay Company charted so much of Canada and its arctic coastline."

"It is entirely fitting that the museum should be housed at the Hall of Clestrain once home to Dr John Rae. He developed his remarkable skills of walking, shooting and, of course, sailing during his childhood at the Hall. He designed and built himself the boats he used so successfully in his arctic journeys and the restored Hall will provide a fitting tribute to his achievements. I wish the project every success."
